With Christmas coming up in just a few days, I found myself standing in line at the post office and the supermarket with the other fools who have procrastinated with the holiday chores. Many people find the holiday season stressful, and they are more than glad to see it end.

I like to think that some modern day inventions are working for me. I do like the idea of giving and receiving gift cards. Although some people think buying gift cards make gifts not that personal, I do enjoy the convenience. Gift cards can be purchased in locations like supermarkets and department stores, and they are as good as cash. That’s what I like about them.

Of course, there’s always cash. You can write a check, but there are people who won’t cash them because they don’t consider them convenient. Instead, they stash them somewhere and forget about them. Receiving cash is a little different. You can’t turn down cash that easily. When the past presidents of the United States stare at you, how could you not spend them? How many people return cash, anyway?

When I give gift cards and cash, I do like to put them in a nice envelope. Gift cards come on a cardboard “card,” but I like to slip them in a separate envelope because I do consider them gifts. The same is to be said about cash. In the past, we thought nothing about slipping money into a greeting card and sending it through the mail. If I’m going to give cash or send cash through the mail, I do like to put it in an envelope. I know things can get lost or stolen in the mail, so there’s another reason why I like the idea of making simple envelopes.

I tried making an origami gift envelope, but the results weren’t that great. In fact, the gift envelope turned out awful. Origami is an art, but most of it has to do with folding the paper a certain way. You have to be exact with the folding. Otherwise, the origami project won’t turn out right. I’m not one to follow directions. When it comes to anything artistic, I do like to go my own way.

I decided to make small envelopes out of leftover wrapping paper instead of struggling with making Origami gift envelopes. If I made Origami gift envelopes, it would take too long.

Quick envelopes made out of gift wrapping paper won’t take a lot of time. If you’ve run out of gift wrap, you can always use any paper that you have available.

Supplies Needed:

Wrapping paper (or any paper of your choice)

Scissors

Ruler

Glue or tape

Brown paper bag for template (optional)

You can always wrap the gift cards and money the old-fashion way, but once you make one envelope using this technique, it will be faster for you to make what you will need. Handmade envelopes are an attractive way to present your gift.

This is an awesome idea! What a great way to use extra wrapping paper that is too small for gifts, or when in a pinch for a gift you can do what you did in your photo, and create a quick cute envelope and throw some cash in there. Every one loves a 20 spot, although now a days that only gets you a block down the road.

jenubouka, $20 is good enough for the kids we know. Luckily, we don't know many. You never know what they like these days. If I shopped for the kids, they would not like what I picked up for them. My husband gives the kids $25 each, but I think that is too much. He argues that he's keeping up with inflation. What???

Great idea and much more reasonable than one of those cards that's costs more than the cash inside. :)

Thanks, Kim! I was surprised to watch my husband wrap his gift cards like presents. I have to admit he did a wonderful job, but since I'm running late, I need to take shortcuts. I do not do Origami as well as some people, but I do admire what's out there. Simple folding without having to study the instructions is enough for me.

That is too funny. Although a movie now a days can put you back that much. Luckily my child is still at the age a permanent marker and a white wall is a gift in itself, well for him anyway.

That's a cute age. I remembering doing some damage myself, but back then, they didn't have permanent markers. I did have crayons, and to my mom, they did

a perfect job!

Hehe, husband keeping up with inflation when it comes to pocket money. I'm all smiling. :)))))

And it's brilliant how simple it is to make an envelope. I have done some myself by folding paper in 3parts and being clumsy with glue but this looks much simpler and cleaner. :)

Eranofu, I did get acquainted with my mini glue gun because I could not find my glue stick. What a mess the glue gun can make! I spent too time pulling away the little wisps of dried glue. If I had my way, I'd bust the money gifts for the kids down to $10 each and "donate" the difference to my bills. Someday, they will understand. Hahahahaha. Maybe!

Of course, they would understand it some day. :)

It is a real pleasure to read your hubs. They make me smile. :) You seem to find the beauty in small thing of the life. Thank you.

Thank you for the compliment, Eranofu! Yes, it's the small things in life. I was raised in the sticks, so it doesn't take much to entertain me. Now, as a retiree on a fixed income, writing beats sitting on my hands and not spending money. I have programmed myself to stay away from the mall unless some generous soul gives me a gift card.
